Awesome game! I like the concept, a spin on the platform games that makes it interesting and keeps you thinking in different ways to solve the puzzles. I had a really fun time playing this and hope you develop it further.

nice game

It's a great simple game with a very nice concept

Great Game !! Simple and Pixel 👍

It's unbelievably fun!!! POG!!!

This idea is so clean, elegant ant beautiful, I really enjoyed playing this game! There is still so much potential in it too, do You plan on developing it further? I'd be happy to see what more You would come up with, and would gladly play more of this :D Well done!

This is really creative but I got stuck on the 2nd level.

really run!

Loved everything about this game!

Original, beautiful, fun. A great game!

I like this concept! I hope you can take it further =) I enjoyed it thoroughly!

Neat graphics and cool concept would have loved some new levels.

cool fun game!

Very cool concept, I love those puzzles which seem that can be solved by many ways.

Thanks!

A well-done execution of a very cool concept! I wish the controls were less janky, as I feel the game should be more about figuring out the puzzle than about platforming. Congrats!

Thanks for playing! What didn't you like about the controls? Any suggestions for improving them?

I found the sliding a little jarring, and it was hard jumping on platforms as the eyes sprite doesn't indicate on the collision box well enough in my opinion. Tighter control will certainly help.

Gotcha. Thanks for the feedback!

Cool concept, I really like 2D the ambient occlusion effect inside the game, it makes the game look awesome!

Thanks!

Any chance for a downloadable version? :D

It's not something I've ever looked into with the framework I'm using. Sorry.

Great mechanic idea, and pretty solid implementation. Very fun to play around with. Personally, didn't care so much for the loud/generic music and retro sound effects, I think they detract from the unique nature of the game. Of course making something this polished in under a week is impressive, so not complaining. Found your game through the Warp Door twitter.

Thanks for the feedback and telling me where you're coming from! It's fun to see the game in the wild!

> Personally, didn't care so much for the loud/generic music and retro sound effects, I think they detract from the unique nature of the game.

I've taken that into account for future games. Maybe since this little guy's gotten some attention, I should update it so the music isn't so loud.

Are you talking about "Berserker and Thumbnail Maker"? If so, that's very kind of you, but you're too generous.

HMM...

Really nice game! Fresh gameplay, nice puzzles, the music is just cool.

Thanks! I can't take any credit for the music.

(+1)

You have chosen it, and it's the kind of music that sets just right mood for the game. If of course I understand the mood.

This game was great, including the fact that there isn't just one solution and i could do my own thing

Thanks for playing and commenting! Glad you liked it!

Could you provide a tutorial or course on how to setup heaps with deepnight libs? Its confusing.

(1 edit)

I found it a little mystifying as well, so you're not alone. (In the end, I think it's a nice system and worth the price of entry.)

Have you been through these tutorials?

That's where I picked it up. I don't think I can explain it better than deepnight himself.

If you're running into a particular problem, I'd be happy to help out if you can tell me where you're stuck. For a quicker answer, you might also try the Discord Haxe server, if you haven't. There's a #heaps hashtag over there.

really clever puzzle game ! all level completed ^^ (the 3rd was a bit hard^^)
(just one thing, maybe the music is not the best choice for this kind of game,  at least for me)

Thanks for playing and completing the game!

> (just one thing, maybe the music is not the best choice for this kind of game,  at least for me)

I admit that I don't know the first thing about music, but I'd love to learn. Do you happen to have something else in mind?

This game is really fun! The only issue I had is sometimes I wasn't sure where the berserker was supposed to go.

> The only issue I had is sometimes I wasn't sure where the berserker was supposed to go.

Tell me more about that. Do you mean you weren't sure which direction he was going to head? Or that you weren't sure where the goal was?

I wasn't sure where the goal was. In most of the levels it's pretty easy to guess, but it was a problem in the last level. I guess the copy mechanic would make it kind of hard to have some visual indicator for the goal though

I'm not quite sure I understand. Do you mean you couldn't see the door?

(2 edits)

Huh, that's weird

(edit: after leaving the page and coming back, it's there, but I refreshed the page several times and nothing changed)
(2nd edit: It only shows the door on the tutorial for me)

That's really odd. Can I ask for your system details? (OS/browser) Are you on a high dpi display?

Admin

I also couldn’t see the door when playing, Chrome 87 Windows 10. Great game by the way, I bumped you up to the fresh games section on the itch.io homepage.

Since the background seems to be rendering, I'll put a marker for the door on the background and reupload. Thanks for the bug report.

Thanks!

super neat game! i played through all the levels.

cool twist on the theme!

some things i'd like to see if you continue to work on it:

  • i'd like the game to be larger (instead of having a big black border around it) and fullscreenable
  • a hotkey to release the current thumbnail (without having to use it) would be handy
  • a level selector and star system where you would get three stars if you solved the level using the fewest thumbnails possible
  • the audio seemed quite loud to me. i changed my system volume so it was no big deal, but having audio settings would be really nice if it were a longer game, where i might be dipping in and out or listening to something else while playing.
  • definitely more levels! i really enjoyed playing the game :)

Thanks for playing and for the comment.

> i'd like the game to be larger (instead of having a big black border around it) and fullscreenable

Are you using a high dpi monitor by chance? I found out with this game that the framework I'm using has an issue with high dpi monitors. I'm trying to get it fixed, but I don't have a high dpi monitor, so I can't test myself.

As far as your other suggestions go, I think they're all great!

(+1)

yeah, i am on a high dpi display. i'm happy to help test if you'd like. you can message me on the WGJ discord; i'm mapsandapps there as well.

great game! it really lets you solve the puzzle any way that you want which is really creative! the graphics and the slight jiggle of the sprites and overall juice makes the game feel very optimistic and child like! I wish there was deeper story but it's really fun and the mechanics are well explored 8/10!

(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

> I wish there was deeper story

Point taken. Maybe once I'm faster with my current tools – or find faster tools! – I'll get around to giving some attention to the story in one of these game jam games.

> slight jiggle of the sprites and overall juice

Thanks for noticing! I spent a lot of hours putting those jiggles in!

Fun! Please continue this premise, it's a very weird one but it works instantly.
